Environment & Sustainability Policy
Policy Overview
We understand that long-term business success goes hand in hand with environmental responsibility and sustainable practices. In all that we do, we aim to create opportunities for our people, clients, and communities, while actively protecting the environment and conserving natural resources.
Sustainability is about more than compliance; it’s about achieving a careful balance between commercial performance and our duty to society and the planet. Our commitment is embedded across the business through a strategy built on risk awareness, competence, conscientious behaviour, and continuous improvement, underpinned by collaborative stakeholder engagement.
Environment & Sustainability
POLICY
Our Approach
Reddington Construction Ltd recognises its responsibility to manage the environmental impact of its operations and is committed to continual improvement in environmental performance. We operate an Integrated Management System (IMS) which aligns our Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality processes in line with our HSEQ objectives. This system is available to clients, employees, and stakeholders upon request.
We proactively identify and manage significant environmental aspects across our sites and offices and share relevant information with employees, clients, and supply chain partners as appropriate.
Environmental Commitments
To support our environmental goals, we are committed to:
-
Complying with all applicable environmental legislation, regulations, and industry codes of practice
-
Monitoring the effectiveness of our Integrated Management System and updating it as required
-
Setting annual environmental objectives through our management review process and communicating these across the business
-
Promoting a culture of environmental awareness and responsibility at all levels of the company
Sustainability in Practice
We are committed to embedding sustainability in the way we work, both strategically and operationally.
We take a practical approach to:
-
Reducing carbon emissions through smarter logistics, local procurement, and the use of low-carbon technologies
-
Improving resource efficiency, including the responsible use of energy and water across all sites and offices
-
Minimising construction waste and maximising reuse and recycling opportunities
-
Sourcing responsibly, favouring materials and suppliers that align with circular economy principles and ethical standards
-
Supporting local communities through employment, apprenticeships, and engagement with social value initiatives
-
Delivering projects that prioritise energy efficiency, future adaptability, and long-term environmental resilience
Operational Controls and Pollution Prevention
We implement proportionate operational controls to prevent pollution and protect the local environment. This includes managing emissions to air, land, and water, minimising nuisance issues (e.g. noise, dust, vibration), and using bunded fuel storage, controlled washout areas, and responsible refuelling practices. We engage specialist environmental consultants as required and take a proactive stance on protecting biodiversity and local amenity.
Waste Management
We ensure all waste is handled in accordance with the Waste Duty of Care. We only use licensed waste carriers and monitor their compliance. We encourage clients to support recycling and segregation initiatives and work with supply chain partners to reduce surplus materials wherever possible.
Training and Awareness
All employees and site workers receive appropriate training and instruction to ensure they understand their environmental responsibilities. This includes inductions, toolbox talks, and role-specific guidance. Key personnel are trained in operational controls and emergency response where required.
Design and Procurement
Where we are responsible for design or material selection, we prioritise environmentally responsible choices and consider long-term sustainability. This includes specifying energy-efficient systems, sustainable construction methods, and low-impact materials. We work with clients and consultants to deliver outcomes that reflect shared environmental goals.
Monitoring, Auditing and Continuous Improvement
Environmental performance is monitored through regular inspections, audits, and compliance reviews. We track our progress against annual environmental objectives and take corrective actions as necessary. Formal audits are conducted by internal teams or third-party specialists and findings are acted on by responsible managers.
Emergency Preparedness
Where environmental risks are foreseeable, we implement appropriate emergency procedures in collaboration with project teams, clients, and relevant authorities. These are reviewed regularly to ensure preparedness in the event of a spill, pollution incident, or environmental breach.
Management Responsibility
The Directors of Reddington Construction Ltd are fully committed to this Environmental Policy and responsible for its implementation. This policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner if required due to changes in legislation, best practice, or our operations.
